Why Should You Join a Long Island Hiking Group ?

The most obvious reason is that the Hike Leaders and many of the members will share with you their knowledge of many trails and beautiful places that you wouldn’t normally find on your own. It’s also nice to be with people who share your enjoyment and respect for the outdoors.

For me though the most important reason for supporting the hiking groups is knowing that I’m supporting what they do. The members of these groups fight to save what is still beautiful and undamaged on this Island and they work to heal its wounds. They educate others and are advocates for our environment. The hiking groups are planning, cutting, blazing, mapping, and maintaining many beautiful trails. The hike leaders are furnishing a unique and valuable service free of charge.

It is because of this that I have become a member of as many hiking groups as I can, and I have freely given of my time, energy, and money to support them.

What I’m trying to say is that I want the members of these groups to realize that they are buying a lot more with their annual dues than hikes and newsletters
