Pine Barrens Watch and Telephone Hotline

The Pine Barrens Law Enforcement Council's member agencies need your help. With more than 54,000 acres of core area lands to patrol and protect, the Council members cannot be everywhere, so they have set up a Pine Barrens Watch Program

A 24 hour, 7 days per week telephone hotline has been established so you can report illegal activities directly to a single number, housed at the Council's office at Southaven County Park.
If you see any illegal activities of an environmental nature in any of Suffolk County’s parks and open space
(dumping, poaching, off road vehicle violations, etc.):

  1. Do not take any direct action, but instead:
Call the 24 hour hotline immediately at:
    1-877-BARRENS

    PLEASE NOTE:
911 is the only number to use when a police officer is immediately needed on the scene of an incident. The reality is that the 911 personnel and the police agencies that they dispatch must prioritize calls, and the response for ATV calls may not always be a high priority.  However, this is the number to call when an immediate response is required.  1-877-BARRENS to report patterns of ATV abuse, or other problems not necessarily on-going, and a SC Park Police Officer (probably a supervisor) will then call you back, take a description of the ATV use patterns, and use that information when the pine barrens area police agencies conduct a field sweep for illegal off road vehicle use.

When making a call, please have as much of the following information available as possible:

-Where the incident is located

-What happened

-When it occurred, or if it is occurring

-Who was involved

-Vehicle(s) descriptions

-Other pertinent information.

-All calls will be kept confidential.
