JULY 1, Wednesday   9 A.M.               BIG REED (4 miles) 

In 1979 Big Reed Pond was added to the National Register of National Landscapes.  Discover why, on this moderately paced walk along the Big Reed Pond Nature Trail.  Some wet sections.  Meet at the public parking area on East Lake Drive, Montauk.

JULY 4, Saturday 9 A.M.                     HAPPY 4TH!  MASHOMACK PRESERVE (6-9 miles)              
5 minutes by ferry yet another world away.  Leave the mainland for this island adventure.  Hike a trail past tidal creeks, through woodlands, over meadows, and along the coastline of this pristine Nature conservancy preserve.  Call for details.

JULY 4, Saturday 8 P.M.                    SUNSET AND FIREWORKS (2 miles)
Here is a rare opportunity to learn about the great diversity of the Walking Dunes, see a stunning sunset, then watch the Devon Yacht Club’s fireworks display.  Bring a flashlight, insect repellent, wine and cheese.  This hike is not suitable for young children.  Meet at the end of Napeague Harbor Rd off Rte. 27 in Napeague.

JULY 8, Wednesday 9 A.M.                THE POX AND THE PONDS (2.5 miles)

Learn a bit about smallpox in colonial America on this “Shortshanks” hike through a magnificent pine forest in the Northwest, a modest pace on basically flat terrain.  Meet at intersection of Swamp Rd and Bull Path in East Hampton.

JULY 11, Saturday 9 A.M                    THE OTHER PINE FOREST (4 miles )                                                                        
With a new connection between the Grace Estate and Grassy hollow, hiking in the Northwest just keeps getting better.  Join us for a shady and easy trek past Joshua’s Hole with its majestic white pines.  Meet at the intersection of Hands Creek Rd. and Van Scoy’s Path-West in East Hampton.

JULY 11, Saturday 9 A.M.                   SAGAPONAK/WATERMILL BIKE RIDE ( 20 miles)                    
A beautiful, leisurely bicycle ride through Sagaponak and Watermill; finally arriving at the studio of Terry Elkins, lighthouse artist extraordinaire.  Meet at 408 Narrow Lane in Sagaponak.  Please have bikes in good working order.  Helmets are required.

JULY 15, Wednesday 9 A.M                WATERFENCE (5 miles)                  
A vigorous hike through some beautiful landscape.  Come join our leader on a walk in Hither Woods. We will follow the Serpent’s Back Trail to the Waterfence shoreline overlooking Napeague Bay.  Meet at the Hither Hills West Overlook  off Rt. 27, about 1 mile east of the Montauk Highway/Old Montauk Highway split.

JULY 18, Saturday 9 A.M                    NORTHWEST CREEK/ KAYAK PADDLE    
Before the brown tide struck in the mid 1080”0 this lovely small harbor was one of the most productive shellfish sites on Long Island.  Completely surrounded by protected land it remains a beautiful spot for quiet exploration.  BYO boat or call Mike Bottini for a delivered rental ().  Meet at the end of Northwest Landing Rd. on the eastern shore of the creek.

JULY 18, Saturday                             SHADMOOR STATE PARK (3 miles)                   
This spectacular hike includes a woodsy trail, close-up views of WW II bunkers, and one of the most awesome views on the East End along the dramatic Montauk bluffs. Portions of the trail can be muddy after a rain; wear proper footgear. Meet at the Shadmoor parking lot on the south side of Rt 27, about ½ mile past Montauk center.  A large sign marks the entrance.

JULY 22, Wednesday 9 A.M.               STONY HILL PRESERVE (3 miles)             
One of our recent openings where names like The Archery Trail and Baker Kettle Hole become a reality.  Set in a “remote” wooded section of East Hampton, this easy hike should put you in a tranquil mood for the rest of the day.  Meet at the south side of Red Dirt Rd approx. ¼ mile from Old Accabonac Hwy in Amagansett.

JULY 25, Saturday 9 A.M.                   GRACE ESTATE/CEDAR POINT PARK (3.5 miles)   
A moderately paced walk on flat terrain in Northwest provides interesting views of a number of interconnected bodies of water.  Meet at the schoolhouse plaque on Northwest Rd. about 3/10 mile from the intersection with Alewive Brook Rd.

BEACH PICNIC AT INDIAN WELLS       Saturday, July 25TH 2009,   6 – 9 PM at Indian Wells Beach, Amagansett. 
No parking sticker required after 6 PM.  Rain date August 1st.  Bring your own picnic and chair PLUS a dessert to share.

JULY 29, Wednesday 9 A.M.                NAPEAGUE TO FRESH POND (2.5-3.5miles)                                                                       
This lovely section of the Paumanok Path takes us into scenic Hither Woods along a winding trail lined with oak, hickory, and pitch pine to the mirror-like Fresh Pond.  Some moderately steep areas.  Meet at Napeague Harbor Rd approximately .3 of a mile north of Montauk Highway in Napeague.
