DECEMBER 3, Wednesday 10 A.M.                               VILLAGE/SHORTSHANKS HIKE (2 miles) 
Walk through a portion of the Nature Preserve and along two quiet East Hampton village roads where some of the Town’s most gracious houses are located.  See where Jackie Kennedy lived when she was a young child.  Meet at the Nature Preserve on David’s Lane, just west of Egypt Lane

DECEMBER. 6 SATURDAY 10AM-2PM or later.,-           Laurel Valley to Northwest Woods. (12 miles) along the Paumanok Path.
Meet 1.5 miles north of Steven Hands Path located at the new parking area and kiosk (on the east side of Rte 114), East Hampton.  This is a tough hike.  Please be prepared to take a taxi back to your car if you can't keep up a brisk pace; we don't want to be walking in the dark.  For info call Ken Kindler, or


DECEMBER 6, Saturday 10 A.M.                                  ANNIVERSARY HIKE   SPRINGS/AMAGANSETT (4 1/2 miles)                            
Join us in celebrating the first anniversary of the opening of this historic neighborhood trail that connects Springs with Amagansett.  The trail leads through residential neighborhoods, historic landmarks, oak forest, open fields and farm land; while at the same time never being far from the centers of the two hamlets.  Meet at the Ashawagh Hall parking area on Parsons Place (just off Springs Fireplace Road).

DECEMBER 10, Wednesday 10 A.M.
                            SEAL HAULOUT (3 miles)   
This popular hike takes us along an easy wooded trail to the shores of Block Island Sound.  If conditions are right, we will find seals sunning themselves on the rocks near the shore.  Dress warmly with proper footgear for weather conditions.  Don’t forget binoculars.  Meet at Camp Hero Rd in Montauk, a right turn off Rt 27 about 1 mile east of Deep Hollow Ranch.  Leader:  Ed Porco

 

DECEMBER 13, Saturday  10 A.M.                              CULLODEN /THE GUNNUCK’S GARDEN TRAIL (3 miles) 

A beautiful hike along a trail loop at Culloden Point leads to spectacular views of Fort Pond Bay, Block Island Sound, and the wetlands of Culloden Point. Meet at the trailhead on Edgemere (becomes Flamingo) Avenue in Montauk, about 1 mile east of the firehouse, past Willis Point Rd intersection.  Leader:  Richard Lupoletti

DECEMBER 13, Saturday 9 A.M.   LONGSHANKS HIKE #12 MONTAUK POINT (10 miles) 
Using a combination of tracks, trails and part of the Paumanok Path, we will access wonderful viewpoints between East Lake Drive and the Montauk Lighthouse.  On our return, we will enjoy different paths to provide a loop trip.  Meet at the Big Reed Nature Trail, on East Lake Drive, about 2 miles from Montauk Highway.  Leader:  Carol Andrews

DECEMBER 17, Wednesday 10 P.M.                           NAPEAGUE TO FRESH POND (3-4 miles)               
This lovely section of the Paumanok Path takes us into scenic Hither Woods along a winding trail lined with oak, hickory, and pitch pine to the mirror-like Fresh Pond.  Some moderately steep areas.  Meet at Napeague Harbor Rd north of the RR tracks.   Leader:  Larry Raymond

DECEMBER 20, Saturday 10 A.M.                               BARCELONA PLUS (7 miles)                                                                                     
Ramble through white pine and hard wood forest.  Amble past a tupelo swamp. Then hike a challenging path along the eighty foot bluff and a pebbly bay beach for unique views of Northwest Harbor, Cedar Point, Shelter Island and Sag Harbor.  Walk a seldom used spur to the southernmost end of Northwest Creek.  Meet at the intersection of  Swamp Rd. and Edwards Hole Rd.                                                                  Leader:  Richard Poveromo , or hike day

DECEMBER 24, Wednesday                                       HIKERS’ HOLIDAY / NO HIKE

DECEMBER 27, Saturday 10A.M.                              BIG WOODS TO LAUREL VALLEY 10 (miles)
Paumanok Path visits some of the most beautiful natural places in eastern Southampton.  We will hike from Big Woods in North Sea to Laurel Valley in Noyac.  Bring water and food.  Meet on Deerfield Rd and Deerwood Path Rd at the Laurel Valley Trailhead.  Take Noyac Rd. bear left onto Deerfield Rd. for .9 miles to Deerwood Path that leads into Northside Hills, trailhead is on the opposite side of the road.  Leader:  Ken Kindler

DECEMBER 27, Saturday 10 A.M.     JJJ                  NORTHWEST  PINES/SHORTSHANKS (2.5 miles)   
This walk maybe short on distance but it is long on interesting things to see and hear, including Benjamin Hubbard’s lone grave, two holes of water and Chatfield Hole.  The pace will be leisurely on this basically flat trail through an exquisite forest.  Meet at the intersection of Bull Path and Swamp Rd.  Leader:  Richard Lupoletti

DECEMBER 28, Sunday 10 A.M.                               HITHER WOODS (6-7 miles) 
We’ll hike the Paumanok Path from Napeague Harbor Rd. and then return via the hilly Serpent’s Back Trail.  Beautiful woods and stunning water views abound.  Bring water and snacks.  Meet at the Hither Hills West overlook off Rt. 27, about 1 mile east of the Montauk Hwy split.  Inclement weather will cancel.  Leader:  Judy Kossover

DECEMBER 31, Wednesday  10 A.M                        MONEY POND LOOP (3-4 miles) 

Learn how Money Pond got its name and then hike to Montauk Lighthouse and to Turtle Cove for spectacular views of the ocean. We will loop back through Camp Hero.  Meet at Camp Hero Rd. off Route 27 about 1 mile east of Deep Hollow Ranch in Montauk.  Leader:  Ed Porco

WE WISH EVERYONE HEALTH, WEALTH, AND GOOD HIKING IN THE NEW YEAR 

JANUARY 3, Saturday 10 A.M.                                HITHER WOODS 20TH ANNIVERSARY NEW YEARS HIKE   (12 miles) 
Your fearless leader has led a New Year’s Weekend hike in Hither Woods for twenty years running.  Why?  Come along and find out.  Hither Woods in winter is still the only place of its kind on Long Island - big, remote, wild.  Be prepared for a long and vigorous day.  Weather never cancels!  Meet at Rod’s Valley, end of Navy Road, Montauk.  Bring water and snacks.               Leader:  Rick Whalen
