This month we celebrate National Trails Day (June 5) and the blossoming of mountain laurels and lady’s-slipper orchids. For additional information about any of the scheduled hikes, call .

June 2, Wednesday 10 A.M. EXERCISE HIKE (3 miles)
Join us for a brisk hike through a lush beech forest and past a working farm. Meet on Abrahams Path in Amagansett about 2/10 mile north of the intersection with Town Lane in East Hampton.

June 5, Saturday 10 A.M. STONY HILL/SPRINGS ADVENTURE (5 miles)
This is a special hike to celebrate our favorite holiday, National Trails Day. It is a new addition to the Paumanok Path trail system in the Stony Hill area and features beech forests, kettle holes, holly trees, and glacial erratics. Meet on Red Dirt Road about ¼ mile from the intersection with Accabonac Rd.

June 9 , Wednesday 10 A.M NORTHWEST RAMBLE (4+ miles)
We will glimpse Van Scoys pond as we proceed to Kirk’s Place. From there we will trek along to Five Corners and then to the new Timberlane by-pass, which will take us along the Deb Foster Trail and through Grassy Hollow. Meet at the schoolhouse plaque about 3/10 of a mile from Alewive Brook Rd intersection.

June 12, Saturday 10 A.M. LADY’S-SLIPPER HIKE ( 2-3 miles)
To guarantee seeing the beautiful pink lady’s-slipper orchid, the hike leader will have us meet at his own natural garden. He assures us we will see many of these beauties. How can we resist? Meet at the intersection of Hands Creek Rd and Oak View Highway in East Hampton.

June 12, Saturday 9 A.M. BIKE TOUR OF SHELTER ISLAND (20 miles)
This will be a leisurely ride around the Island. We will visit historical buildings, including Havens House and The Gingerbread House, and Ram’s Island. Meet at the South Ferry dock in North Haven at the end of Rte 114. Please call leaders the evening before so they’ll know to wait for you at the dock.

June 13, Sunday 10 A.M. MILLER’S GROUND (3-4 miles)
This trail is famous for its numerous mountain laurels. If we’re lucky, they’ll be in full bloom today. Meet on Wainscott Northwest Road (also known as Daniel’s Hole Road) and the Power Line Rd, north of the EH airport.

June 16 , Wednesday 10 A.M. LAUREL CANYON WALK (3-4 miles)
We may see the beautiful laurel flowers in bloom on this somewhat hilly terrain. Meet at the Montauk Recycling Center off Rt. 27, about 3 miles east of split with Old Montauk Highway.

June 19, Saturday 10 A.M KAYAK/MOVEABLE FEAST CANCELLED
Tanbark Creek, Hands Creek, and Sammy's Beach paddle (June 19) has been cancelled. Because of insurance issues, the members voted not to conduct any kayak trips for the time being. We are not insured for kayak trips right now.
June 19, Saturday 10 A.M. RIGHT-OF-WAY TRAIL (4 miles)
We will walk 2 miles along a “secret” fern-lined woodsy path to a quiet lake beach, then back again along the same enchanting trail. Meet at Montauk Library Parking lot on the east side of town.

June 23, Wednesday 10 A.M. CAMP HERO TO TURTLE COVE (3+ miles)
Natural beauty combined with man-made structures of historical interest make this a unique hiking experience. Meet at Camp Hero Rd in Montauk, a right turn off Rt 27 about 1 mile east of Deep Hollow Ranch. Leader: Jim Rice
June 26, Saturday 10 A.M NEW BUCKSKILL AIRPORT LOOP (3 miles)
Using existing trails and woods roads we have devised a new Buckskill venue. Be a part of the inaugural hike of this new loop through a relatively flat oak/pitch pine forest. Meet at the entrance to ARF on Daniel’s Hole Rd, immediately north of the LIRR overpass and slightly south of the EH Airport.

June 30, Wednesday 10 A.M. MAIDSTONE WALK (2-3 miles)
Two double loops take us along a beach and scenic roads as our leader fills us in on the area’s unique history. Meet at the picnic area at the top of the hill on Maidstone Park Road, just beyond Michael’s Restaurant, via Three Mile Harbor Road and Flaggy Hole Road in East Hampton.
