It was a difficult winter and a disappointing spring and now we are ready to appreciate the glory known as The East End. Make a special effort to hike with us this month.

May 3, Saturday, 10AM: Sammy's Beach (3 miles)
Join us for a beach walk along the beautiful shoreline of Sammy's Beach and Three Mile Harbor wetlands. There will be NO dogs allowed on this hike.  Meet at the end of Old House Landing Road, via Alewife Brook Road, in the Northwest section of East Hampton.

May 4, Sunday, 10AM: Poetry Hike at the Dunes (3 miles)
Enjoy a morning of "culture and nature" at the Walking Dunes.  We will be stopping twice along the way for poetry readings.  BYOP (Bring your own poem) written by you or someone else.  Both readers and listeners are welcome.  Meet at the end of Napeague Harbor Road off Rt. 27 in Napeague.

May 4, Sunday, 9AM:  Hither Woods (7 miles)
A fast-paced ramble through the eastern reaches of Hither Woods, Montauk, including
Ram Level, Block Island Sound and Laurel Canyon.  Bring water and snacks. 
Deep woods and water views abound.  Bring liquids and snack.  Meet at parking area at Montauk Recycling Center, north side of Montauk Point State Parkway (NY 27), 2 miles east of Hither Hills Overlook in Montauk.

May 7, Wednesday, 10AM: Big Reed Pond (3-4 miles)
Enjoy many beautiful water views of Big Reed Pond, including a Registered Natural Landmark.  Meet at the parking area off Eastlake Drive, about 2 miles north of the intersection with Rt. 27 in Montauk.

May 10, Saturday, 10AM: Van Scoy Loop (5 miles).
Using parts of seven different trails, we will visit the remains of the once prosperous Van Scoy family farm in the Northwest.  Meet at the intersection of Hands Creek Rd. and Van Scoy's Path West in East Hampton.

May 14, Wednesday, 10AM: Dogwood Hike (3-4 miles)
This 3-4 mile hike will offer something for everyone. The combination of forest, shore and hopefully dogwood trees in bloom will prove a pleasure to all.  Meet at the School House Plaque on Northwest Rd. about 3/10 mile from the intersection with Alewife Brook Road in the Northwest section of East Hampton.

May 21, Wednesday, 10AM: Laurel Canyon (3-4 miles). 
We just may see the beautiful laurel flowers in bloom on this somewhat hilly terrain.
Meet at the Montauk Recycling Center off Rt. 27, about 3 miles east of split with Old Montauk Highway.

May 24, Saturday, 10AM: Wainscott Dual Distance (4 or 8 miles). 
Challenge yourself up the terminal moraine on the Miller's Ground switchback trail and prepare for Summer Survivor Camp with another loop of the Buckskill Airport trail.  Do the first or both loops.  Meet on Wainscott NW Rd. (Daniel's Hole Rd.), just north of EH airport.

May 25, Sunday, 10AM: Memorial Hike & Picnic (3 miles)
This hike is dedicated to our past member and hike leader Irwin Butensky.  There will be a dedication and a hike followed by a BYOP (bring your own picnic). Please join us.  We will meet in the parking area at Third House in Theodore Roosevelt County Park in Montauk.

May 25, Sunday, 9AM: Northwest Woods
- White Pines and Blue Water: (7 miles)
From the White Pine Forest of East Hampton's Northwest Woods to the blue waters of Northwest Harbor, this moderate to brisk 7 mile hike rambles through greenbelt trail corridors as well as the more unspoiled woodlands of the Grace Estate Preserve.  Along the way, you will learn a little about the fascinating history of the Northwest Woods. Meet beside pond at Chatfield's Hole, on Two Holes of Water Road about ¼ mile south of intersection with Swamp Road, East Hampton. Bring liquids and snack.

May 28, Wednesday, 10AM: Jacob's Farm Plus (2+ miles)
We will hike a seldom explored trail at Jacob's Farm in the Springs area of East Hampton.  Meet at Red Dirt Road about ¼ mile from the point it intersects with Accabonac Highway.

May 31, Saturday, 10AM: Wainscott Historic Hike (2-3 miles)
We will explore the history of beautiful Wainscott Village with a leader whose family has been there for nine generations.  Meet at the end of Beach Lane between Georgica and Wainscott Ponds.
