Back by popular demand .... the East Hampton Trail Maps!

EDITORS NOTE: If you ever considered joining the “group out east” on a hike this would be a good month to do so.  If only it were possible, I would enjoy every event that EHTPS offers this month.

Starting time for the month of September will return to our normal 10AM. To take advantage of the lovely late summer weather we have scheduled two kayak outings. For additional hike information please call .

Amagansett Ramble

Saturday, September 1, (3-4 miles), 10AM

Our enthusiastic leader will take us through woods, water and woe as we proceed in a northerly direction away from Rt. 27. Meet at the intersection of Cranberry Hole Rd. and Cross Highway in Amagansett.

Sunset-Full Moon Hike

Sunday, September 2, (3 miles), 7:00 PM

Say good-bye to summer with a glorious sunset and a sparkling moonlit beach walk. The pace will be moderate and the atmosphere mellow. Some car moving will be necessary.  Meet at the Hither Hills overlook on Rt. 27, 1 mile east of the split with Old Montauk H'way in Montauk.

Walking Dunes

Monday, September 3, (3-4 miles), 10AM

On this well paced hike you will learn how these mysterious dunes were formed and why they are "walking." We will hike to Napeague Harbor. Meet at the end of Napeague Harbor Rd. off Rt. 27 in Napeague.

The Other Barcelona

Wednesday, September 6, (4 miles), 10AM 

Walk with us as we hike the "other" Barcelona, the one that features views of beautiful Northwest Creek from various vantage points. Meet at the corner of Rt. 114 and Swamp Rd. in the Northwest section of East Hampton.

Three Mile Harbor

Saturday, September 8, (3 miles), 10AM

Diversity is the main attraction of this hike, including a field of statues and the spectacular 175 foot long Tanbark Creek Bridge. Meet at the intersection of Springy Banks Rd. and Soak Hides Rd. in East Hampton.

Kayak/Canoe Paddle

Sunday, September 9, 10AM

Paddle the usually placid waters of Three Mile Harbor Creek and along the southern shore of Sammy's Beach. Finish with coffee and bagels at the home of the hike leaders. Meet at the end of Island Rd. off Oysters Shore Rd. off Springy Bank Rd. in East Hampton.

Point Woods

Saturday, September 16, (4+ miles), 10AM

New sections of Point Woods and Turtle Cove make this hike spectacular +. We will hike Point Woods and continue on to Turtle Cove. Meet at Camp Hero Rd.; right turn off Rt. 27, about a mile east of Deep Hollow Ranch, in Montauk.

Split Rock

Wednesday, September 19, (6 miles), 10AM

Enjoy spectacular views from Panorama then visit the famous Lost Boulder and Split Rock on a 6-mile loop. Meet at the Montauk Recycling Center on the north side of Rt. 27, about 2 miles west of Montauk Center. Leader: Ed Porco


Right of Way

Saturday, September 22, (3 miles), 10AM 

We will hike this lovely, unseen trail that parallels Route 27. It begins just outside the center of Montauk and winds through an unexpected forest. Meet in Theodore Roosevelt County Park, on the north side of Rt. 27, about 31/2 miles east of the center of Montauk.

Kayak/Canoe Paddle

Saturday, September 22 Sunday, 3PM, (RAIN DATE: September 23)

We will meet at the launching ramp in Settler's Landing at the end of Hand's Creek Rd. in the Northwest section of East Hampton. We will paddle into Hand's Creek, (a birder's paradise).

Big Reed

Wednesday, September 26, (3-4 miles), 10AM

Enjoy many beautiful water views of Big Reed Pond, including a Registered Natural Landmark. Meet at the parking area off Eastlake Drive, about 2 miles north of the intersection with Rt. 27 in Montauk

Grace Estate

Saturday, September 29, (4 miles), 10AM  

A beautiful sunny day and a hike in the woods. The combination of forest and shore will please us all. Meet at the School House Plaque on Northwest Rd, about 3/10 mile from the intersection with Alewive Brook Rd. in East Hampton's Northwest.
