October, one of the most beautiful months of all in East Hampton. We will hike in different areas to see the changes all about us. We will also celebrate Halloween for the young and older. Please note that Daylight Saving Time takes effect on Sunday, October 28.
Wednesday, October 3, Springs Historic Hike, 10AM (2 miles)
This historic hike in the Springs will also take us along a rocky stretch of beach. We are invited to join our hike leaders at their home for refreshments at the end of the hike. Meet at Ashawagh Hall* at the corner of Springs Fireplace Rd. and Old Stone Highway, in East Hampton.

Saturday, October 6, Paumanok Path #1, 9AM: Duel Distance Event: (12 1/2 miles or 4 1/2 miles)
This challenging hike is the first leg of a four-part fall/winter reprise of the entire Paumanok Path. Meet at Soak Hides Rd. and Springy Banks Rd., in East Hampton. Bring water and lunch and snacks. For those not ready for this much of a good thing you will be able to hike the first 4 1/2 miles.

Directions: Traveling east on CR 27, pass Stephen Hands Road, continue past the light and hard left, pass Hook Pond on your right and CR 114. Immediately before the windmill in the Village of East Hampton take the left onto N. Main Street. Take N. Main Street to the Springs Fireplace / Three Mile Harbor Road fork in the road, bear left onto Three Mile Harbor Road. Continue on Three Mile Harbor Road approx. 1½ miles. Bear left onto Springy Banks Road, then after a short distance you will find Soak Hides Road just under the southern tip of the harbor.
Wednesday, October 10, Point Woods, 10AM (4+ miles)
New sections of Point Woods and Turtle Cove make this hike spectacular. We will hike Point Woods and continue on to Turtle Cove. Meet at Camp Hero Road. Turn right off Route 27, about a mile east of Deep Hollow Ranch, in Montauk.

Saturday, October 13, Cedar Point Park, 10AM (3 miles)
Enjoy spectacular views from a cliff high above Gardiner's Bay as we walk through the serene hard wood forest of this beautiful county park. Meet in the park off Alewife Brook Rd., in the Northwest section of East Hampton. Continue to the parking area, next to the pavilion, across from the campground.

Directions: On Montauk Highway heading east you will see the Wainscott town sign. Pass Daniel’s Hole Road (this is the road for the East Hampton Airport.) Take the next left turn (North) Stephen Hands Path. Bear left onto Old Northwest Road. Stay on Old NW RD until you reach Northwest Road. Make a right onto Northwest Road; take it to the end, then make a left onto Alewive Brook Road. Make a quick right onto Cedar Point Road. You are now in the Park.
Wednesday, October 17, Oyster Pond, 10AM (3-4 miles)
We will travel through Theodore Roosevelt County Park, view the beautiful Oyster Pond and Block Island Sound. Meet at Third House in Theodore Roosevelt County Park in Montauk

Saturday, October 20, Lower Barcelona, 10AM (3 miles)
This hike passes through a preserve of nearly every kind of ecosystem found on the East End. We will also see two spectacular views of Northwest Harbor from different blowouts through the cliffs. Meet at the Sag Harbor Golf Course off Rt. 114 in East Hampton.

Wednesday, October 24, Exercise Hike, 10AM (3-4 miles)
This will be an "at your own pace" exercise hike along farmland and through a beautiful beech forest. Bring water. Meet on Abraham’s Path in western Amagansett about 2/10 mile north of intersection with Town Lane, in East Hampton.

Saturday, October 27, Wainscott Historic Hike, 10AM (2-3 miles)
We will explore the history of beautiful Wainscott with a leader whose family has been there for nine generations. Meet at the end of Beach Lane between Georgica and Wainscott Ponds.

Saturday, October 27, Halloween Hike Beware! 2PM
The Ghoul Van Scoy is returning! Join him on his 4-mile ramble through the Ghost Village of the Northwest. The Ghoul would be very pleased (but it is not required) if you trekked in costume. Those who survive will be rewarded with cider and cookies. Meet at the cemetery next to the School House Plaque on Northwest Rd., about 3/10 mile from the intersection with Alewive Brook Rd., in East Hampton. Rain Date: Sunday, October 28, 10AM

Wednesday, October 31, Big Reed, 10AM (3-4 miles)
Enjoy many beautiful water views of Big Reed Pond, including a Registered Natural Landmark. Meet at the parking area off Eastlake Drive, about 2 miles north of the intersection with Rt. 27, in Montauk.

Ever wonder how the EHTPS came to be? We'll be showing a short video, "EHTPS: The Beginnings," featuring some of the founders of our group right after the October business meeting. Come and meet some of the far-sighted men and women who birthed our wonderful organization.
Our next meeting will be Monday, October 1 at 7:30 at Ashawagh Hall.
*Directions to Ashawagh Hall: Travel 3 miles past Daniel’s Hole Road on Montauk HWY/NY-27. Pass Hook Pond after left at light. Turn Left onto N. Main St (just before windmill) 0.6 miles: Proceed under train Trestle: N. Main St. becomes Springs Fireplace Rd (bear right at fork – don’t take Three Mile Harbor Road on your left). After 4 miles, just past School Street on your right by Parsons Place, just before Old Stone Highway, is Ashawagh Hall. If you pass the entrance to the Nature Conservancy’s Merrill Lake Sanctuary, you have gone too far north.
